THE DEAL: Scenic Cruises (Scenic Tours) is offering a seven-night Dutch and Belgian river cruise, sailing roundtrip from Amsterdam on April 14, 2014. Prices start from $2,753 per person for an outside cabin. Fare includes free flights or $900 in savings, per couple, when you book by October 31.
WHAT WE LOVE: Scenic Cruises (also known as Scenic Tours) is an Australian-based river cruise line that has only recently begun advertising to U.S. residents. Like most river lines, they follow the all-inclusive model. Deal aside, your Scenic cruise fare will include everything from gratuities to alcoholic drinks, shore excursions, butler service (for all guests) and Wi-Fi throughout the ship. It will cost you more up front (starting from $393 per person, per night), but you won’t be nickel-and-dimed for the duration of your trip. Scenic’s early booking bonus offers an extra incentive to see Holland’s famed tulips and try Belgium’s culinary delights, with the offer of free flights or $900 in savings when you book by the end of October. This sailing is peak season, and onboard a line of ships so roomy they have been nicknamed “space ships.”
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: While we love the inclusions and itinerary, nearly $400 per night is quite a bit to spring for a cruise, especially for a line newly adapting to the American market. Passengers should be primarily English-speaking (Australian and European), but be prepared to be in the geographic minority.
