“Dreams do come true,” Cruise Critic member SunshineDawn discovered, as she and her husband embraced the sweet Hawaiian breeze that rolled through their balcony cabin aboard Norwegian‘s Pride of America. Since childhood, SunshineDawn longed to visit the magical islands that, for her, had only existed in photographs. But for their 25th anniversary, Aloha became a reality.
From the moment their shoes met the soil, everything seemed perfect. A pre-cruise city excursion combined the best of Honolulu with a hotel featuring splashing waterfalls, crystal clear lagoons and a view of Diamond Head.
Once onboard, the couple settled into their cabin — complete with a spacious balcony and neighbors who they’d eventually invite to dinner at Little Italy — and explored the ship before enjoying a sailaway dinner overlooking the sunset.
Pineapple wine (verdict so-so), local art and the state parks along the coastline defined SunshineDawn and her husband’s journey down the Road to Hana, while an Aloha buffet breakfast kick-started a day of shopping and sightseeing in the charming village of Kona. As the cruise neared its end, a helicopter ride over Kauai touched her heart in a way she’ll never forget, despite her fear of heights. Read SunshineDawn’s full review for all her tips and hints on the best way to explore Hawaii on Pride of America.
For their efforts, SunshineDawn and four other Reviewers of the Week — travelbunnyvic, aurorastorm, loveandcruises and dataminn — receive Cruise Critic logo items.
