Steal of the Week: Free European Tour for Kids + $1,000 Off

August 29, 2013 | By | No Comments

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Royal Caribbean International is offering a free shore excursion in Europe for children 12 and under, half off of deposits, and $1,000 in savings if you book a seven-night or longer cruise in a balcony or higher cabin, using the line’s airfare provider, ChoiceAir. This offer is valid for 2014 sailings.

WHAT WE LOVE: Perks that make it easier to bring the whole family are always a welcome addition to any cruise vacation. Royal Caribbean’s latest promotion encourages you to bring the entire troop to explore Europe, with savings incentives and a complimentary shore excursion for children 12 and younger (an uncommon offering). In order to save $1,000 on any of the select sailings for 2014, simply make sure you adhere to three conditions: stay in a balcony cabin or higher (your loved ones will appreciate the extra space); cruise for a week or more (why would you want to do less with an overseas experience?); and book your airfare through Royal’s ChoiceAir program (guaranteeing you will arrive for embarkation). Exposure to Europe’s Old World history and modern cities will be a family trip that won’t be forgotten.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: The perks, which are conditional, are not optimal for a low-budget escape, excluding the inside and outside cabin classes. The free excursion, while helpful, is only available to small children (under 13), and is only valid when two adults are booked for the same excursion. This puts single parents at a disadvantage, and young teens requiring a full-price fare. Depending on your family dynamic, this deal may either be extremely helpful, or may have little effect on your plans. Be sure to book your cruise by September 30 and book all excursions by December 15, 2013, to qualify.
