Steal of the Week: Free Single Supplement on Europe River Cruises

July 11, 2013 | By | No Comments

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Avalon Waterways is offering free single supplements for a variety of Europe river cruises throughout 2013. Ports include Amsterdam, Paris, Budapest, Cologne and Prague, among others.

WHAT WE LOVE: Good solo deals are hard to come by, so not having to pay a single supplement is a nice break for the independent cruiser. River cruising is a relaxing and more intimate way to travel, which is conducive to getting to know your fellow passengers, and great for meeting new travel companions. Itineraries listing major European cities guarantee plenty to see and do in port and ample scenery as you sail. Locally sourced wines and shore excursions are included in your fare.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: If you’re not traveling alone, than this deal won’t knock your socks off. Many people are used to the rules on double occupancy and don’t think twice about the added charge of sailing single. Also, a one-week river cruise is notably more expensive than your average week on a mainstream ocean liner, usually because of the addtional inclusions.
HOW TO BOOK IT: For all the nitty-gritty on this deal (including that pesky fine print), click here. Compare flight prices with our sister site TripAdvisor’s meta-search tool.
