A cruise from Nova Scotia to New England seemed like the perfect itinerary, and with a price tag to back it up, member dawnster1014 met Holland America for the first time. She and her husband spent a night in Old Montreal before setting out to sea onboard Maasdam. With a day to explore by foot, they enjoyed dining at an outdoor cafe to the sounds of a street band, a quaint carriage ride and visit to the old cathedral in which Celine Dion was married. Dawnster1014’s words of advice: “If you go to Montreal, take a day or two to explore the old part of the city.”
Onboard, the laid-back vibe they predicted had its pros and cons. Slow-paced service interrupted dinners in the main dining room but having the hot tub practically to themselves made up for it.
Like Montreal, Halifax was a favorite on the port-of-call agenda. And Bar Harbor, Maine — where the Acadia National Park and Lobster Bake proved to be well worth the money — was just as memorable. Read dawnster1014’s full review
