It wasn’t until her Alaskan cruise aboard Silver Shadow that Cruise Critic member SuzCruise understood why people always want to know who the captain is beforehand. As fairly avid cruisers and whale-watchers, SuzCruise and her husband had never witnessed anything like their first Silversea experience.
Meandering through channels like a needle and thread, the ship came nearly within hand’s reach of landmark glaciers — Harvard, Hubbard and Sawyer. Onlookers aboard other ships watched with envy as SuzCruise and her fellow passengers sailed by.
On land, the couple rented a car as they made their way into Canada. Destination: Emerald Lake. If you could imagine the perfect spot for a picnic, this probably would be it.
The theraputic road trip was soon followed by a visit to the charming village of Sitka; Ketchikan, the “Salmon Capital of the World”; and Vancouver, where friendly faces and more fresh seafood left a lasting impression. With the exception of a few food-serving faux pas onboard, Silversea’s staff and entertainment — thanks to cruise director, Mike — stood above all others.
