Weird Cruise Ship Art: “What Does It Mean?!” Contest
December 4, 2012 | By Cruise Critic | 21 Comments

Editor’s note: Congratulations to Adrian, who went a little dark with his interpretation of Reflection’s art. His thoughtful explanation: “Murder by ceramics – You’ve got the murderer on the left hand side – the victim on the right, and a looker on, or possibly an angel in the middle.” For his winning entry, Adrian will receive a book about the art on Reflection.
Incidentally, “Celebrity Reflection: The Celebrity Art Collection, 1990-2012″ Iconocraste Au Bat II, 2011, represents artist Laurent Craste’s “unusual and humorous study of vanity and aggressive impulses through the act of destruction.” The vases and urns represent traditional symbols of political power, wealth and luxury. So there ya go.
Look in any stairwell, hallway or bathroom area on a Celebrity Cruises ship, and you’re certain to spot something that makes you go “huh?!” Or maybe “ohhh.” So it came as no surprise when we stumbled on the above artistic statement on Celebrity Reflection. (See our other live reports here.)
So what does it mean? We have no idea; but convince us that you do and you could win an “Art of Celebrity” coffee table book. Post your explications in the comments. Best one, as chosen by editors, wins.
Limit your entry to one caption. You have until noon Friday (Dec. 7) at noon EST.
