Steal of the Week: Cruise the Southern Caribbean From $71 Per Night

November 15, 2012 | By | Comments Off

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Cruise.com is offering a weeklong Southern Caribbean cruise aboard Celebrity Summit, sailing roundtrip from San Juan on December 8, 2012. Fares start at $499 per person for an inside cabin.

WHAT WE LOVE: With just a single sea day, this last-minute sailing offers a lot of destination value for the money. You’ll have plenty of time for relaxation, water sports, active pursuits and shopping in destinations such as St. Croix, St. Kitts, Dominica, Grenada and St. Thomas. Plus, you may be eligible for prepaid gratuities and/or up to $100 in onboard credit. Celebrity Summit underwent a multimillion-dollar refurbishment in early 2012, and now sports Solstice-class amenities such as specialty restaurants Qsine and Bistro on Five, AquaClass spa cabins and the high-energy Crush Martini Bar.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: Unless you live in Puerto Rico, cruising out of San Juan is not as convenient as a drive-to U.S. homeport. To see how much flights will add to your vacation cost, compare flight prices with our sister site TripAdvisor’s meta-search tool. The cruise fare is not as dirt cheap as some previous Steals of the Week, but it’s quite a low rate for premium-line Celebrity.
HOW TO BOOK IT: For all the nitty-gritty on this deal (including that pesky fine print), click here.
