THE DEAL: Cruise.com is offering a weeklong Western Caribbean cruise aboard Carnival Valor, sailing roundtrip from Miami on January 13, 2013. Fares start at $399 per person for an inside cabin.
WHAT WE LOVE: From as little as $57 per night, you can visit Cozumel, Mexico; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; and Grand Cayman on this early 2013 sailing. If you want to upgrade for more light and space, outsides and balconies also cost less than $100 per person per night. If you can’t afford to, don’t worry; Carnival has some of the roomiest inside cabins in the industry.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: The itinerary is a Western Caribbean greatest hits cruise; if you’ve done it before, you may not want to hit the same ports again. Carnival Valor tends to focus on silly pool games, live music of all types and plentiful, varied food choices, but be prepared for a lack of enrichment programming, an odd “you can’t get there from here” ship layout and the ubiquitous lounge chair hogs by the pool.
