Steal of the Week: Cruise the Mediterranean on Cunard from $70 Per Night

August 2, 2012 | By | No Comments

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Cunard is offering a limited-time sale on select 10- and 12-night Eastern and Western Mediterranean cruises aboard Queen Elizabeth, departing September through November 2012. Itineraries include Greek Isles, Black Sea and Holy Land cruises. Fares start at $699 per person for an inside cabin on a 10-night cruise and $899 for an inside cabin on a 12-night cruise.

WHAT WE LOVE: These are low fares for Cunard, a mainstream line with some classy British panache — think dress-up dinners, ballroom dancing, afternoon tea and even fencing lessons. All cabin categories are discounted, from insides to Queens Suites — including verandahs from just $108 a night. You can also receive $100 to $300 in onboard credit per cabin, based on category booked. Plus, the low-season fall sailings may just yield fewer crowds, lower airfares and more comfortable temps than the heat of summer.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: Can you survive a week and a half in a 152-square-foot cabin with no window and a tiny bathroom? If the answer is no, the lowest fares are not for you. Try to snag a balcony deal instead. And there’s no time to leisurely ponder the merits of the offer; even if the fares don’t sell out, they will expire on Monday, August 6.
