Poll Position: Singing on the High Seas

July 14, 2012 | By | 2 Comments

What could be better than sun, sand and midnight buffets? Try combining all of that with a chance to sail with your favorite singer or band. Theme cruises have existed for years, and recently several big names — the likes of which include Kiss, Kid Rock and even New Kids on the Block — have taken to hosting large groups of fans on cruise ships.
Not only are these sailings an interesting way for avid cruisers to indulge their love of music, but they also draw crowds of people who may not otherwise be interested in cruising.
What we asked: On a music-themed cruise, I’d most like to sail with ___.
What they said: More than half of all voters — 52 percent — said they’d most like to cruise with Jimmy Buffett. Another 18 percent voted for Kenny Chesney. A further 17 percent went with Andrea Bocelli, and the remaining 13 percent chose Lady Gaga.
What it all means: Frankly, we’re not at all surprised by Buffett’s sweeping victory. We reached out on Facebook to get some comments from readers about their favorites, and he was the clear winner there, too. (What we’re most shocked about is the fact that Andrea Bocelli kicked the pants off of Lady Gaga — not that she ever wears pants, but you get the idea.) Other favorites included Journey, the Zac Brown Band, the Beach Boys, Bon Jovi and the Eagles.

I wish they did more big band cruises like they used to. And not the swing bands like Glenn Miller, but the dance bands like Guy Lombardo, Jan Garber, and Russ Morgan….give us a chance to dress for dinner and bring elegance and civility back to the high seas. FYI., I’m in my mid-forties and there are a lot of people my age and younger that love this music.

I am hoping Bare Naked Ladies decide to do another cruise- they are fun and I am sure a cruise with them would be upbeat and happy!
