Poll Position: Booking Excursions
June 25, 2012 | By Ashley Kosciolek | 3 Comments

Cruisers have lots of options for exploring ports of call. Whether it’s an guided coach tour or a day of leisurely shopping or lying on the beach, it can be difficult to choose what to do and how to go about organizing it. So, we wondered how most folks book their excursions — if they do excursions at all.
What we asked: How do you book your shore excursions?
What they said: About 44 percent say they book their excursions through the line pre-cruise. Another 31 percent say they book them with an independent company and not their cruise line. A further 13 percent don’t book excursions, and the remaining 13 percent book through the line once they’re on the ship.

What it all means: Although we expected pre-bookings to be the most popular, we’re surprised at the number of people who book their own excursions independently.

We always book independently. You have a better experience, more personalization, and the costs are greatly reduced. Cruise lines charge too much for excursions.
