Poll Position: Splurging at Sea

Sure, cruises are usually a great value when compared with land-based vacations, but with the increasing number of extras available onboard — spa treatments, gambling, dinner theatre, cupcakes, etc. — it can be all too easy to fatten your onboard bill. So, we wondered: on what do most passengers spend extra cash?
What we asked: My biggest splurge at sea is ___.
What they said: A whopping 63 percent said they spend the most on cabin upgrades — balconies or suites. Another 19 percent say booze makes up most of their onboard bills. A further 10 percent admit to spending on spa treatments, and the remaining 8 percent go with photos.

What it all means: Cabin type is important to a lot of folks — more than half of the nearly 4,100 who responded. Frankly, we’re shocked (and encouraged) that alcohol didn’t garner more votes.

Mine would be jewelry. Those onboard jewelry shops are too tempting. Last year, I disembarked with a new $1,800 tanzanite and diamond ring. I have to admit though, I love wearing it though so that’s all that matters. =)
