Poll Position: Onboard in Port?

May 30, 2012 | By | 4 Comments

It’s often said that the ships themselves, rather than the ports, are the destinations on mega-ship cruises. We were curious whether passengers forego trips ashore in favor of staying onboard and decided to put that theory to the test.
What we asked: Do you stay onboard in port?
What they said: Most voters — about 50 percent — said it’s possible, depending on the port. Another 41 percent said they never hang back. A further 8 percent said it depends on the weather, and the remaining 2 percent said they always stay onboard.
What it all means: It seems people do still enjoy ridding themselves of their sea legs every couple of days, regardless of amenities offered onboard.

I can’t speak for everyone, but the survey seemed to be missing an answer. I, for one, stay on when we’re in Nassau….because I’ve “done” it to death. New Port? Yep, I’m on my way

On my last cruise, a Ft. Lauderdale to LA Panama Canal transit, I got off at every port. I hadn’t planned on it for a couple of ports but was talked into it by a couple of other passengers.

I’m not a big shopper at ports and if I don’t have an interest in the port I don’t go ashore. Most of the port stops have such a limited amount of time that shopping is about all you can do.

My main interest in cruising is to be away from the phone and online activities. I like a lot of sea days more than a lot of port days.

Nooooo…I cannot stay on board although I do agreee that the ship in and of itself is a resort destination; but stil I have to go off board on port days, I must as that too is a majot part of my cruise experience.

For me every port is an adventure. My spouse lounges at the pool aboard ship all day. We meet for happy hour, dinner, and entertainment. The perfect vacation for everyone.
