Live From MSC Poesia: Pronunciation
January 16, 2012 | By Ashley Kosciolek | 7 Comments

After spending three full days on MSC Poesia, I’ve seen shows, found out-of-the-way nooks and crannies and spent far more than I should have on discount purses. But after all of that, I still don’t know how to say the ship’s name.
So far, I’ve heard “poh-ee-SEE-yah,” “poh-EH-see-yah,” “poh-eh-SEE-yah,” “poh-EE-zsa,” and tons of others, all with variations on long and short vowels and accented syllables. I suppose that, with so many nationalities onboard, it’s understandable, but I wanted a definitive answer. Naturally, I deferred to the Italian pronunciation — you know, with it being an Italian ship and all.
So, which is correct?

Pretty sure it’s D since the “s” is pronounced like a slurred zed (zee for you Yanks…)

I’m guessing D. I’m basing my choice soley on how I THINK my Italian acquaintances would pronounce it.

None of the given pronunciations are correct. C) is close but an ‘s’ in Italian is pronounced like a ‘z’ in English. The correct pronunciation is ‘poh eh ZEE yah’.
