Video: Carnival Pride’s Demon Hell Ride of a Halloween Cruise

November 16, 2011 | By | 7 Comments

“This was my 13th Carnival cruise, and I thought it was bad luck taking my 13th over Halloween,” wrote Dave… on the message boards. He was referring to the unexpected bad weather that walloped Carnival Pride in early November, forcing the ship to delay its arrival into Baltimore after a Bahamas and Florida cruise. (The captain had to reduce cruising speed to accommodate the weather conditions — thus the late debark.)

Dave… (the ellipsis is part of his boards moniker) was “up and around a lot during the storm.” We’re glad he stayed safe, especially with the ship “bobbing like a cork” (his words). While the damage wasn’t extensive or lasting, there were broken plates, toppled souvenir displays and the “odd light fixture [that] fell from the ceiling.”
Dave… saw the experience as an adventure — and some fellow passengers echoed his sentiments. “I HAD THE TIME OF MY LIFE!” said Facebooker Heidi Field.
“The experience was great — not something I would want to happen every cruise, but it made for a very memorable [sailing],” wrote Rankbronc, who provided the above pic of his Deck 1 oceanview cabin-turned aquarium. (See pic right for point of reference: Deck 1 is the second floor below the ship’s red racing stripe.). “The cabin provided a view of the ocean that we had not expected,” he added.
Dave… snapped the above shot from Deck 7. Not much to add — the sea spume is plenty eloquent.

We were on the Halloween cruise on RCI Enchantment of the Seas out of Baltimore, and came through a big weather system on the night of Nov. 1-2, after leaving Bermuda. The captain had warned us of gale force winds and heavy seas when we left Bermuda, so we put on patches and were ready for it. We went back to our Deck 4-forward outside cabin after the show and settled in. We read for a while, turned out the lights, and a few minutes later were surprised by what appeared to be a light shining in the window. We knelt on the end of the bed to look out — and saw a breathtaking display of phosphorescence. The white caps were glowing all the way to the horizon, and every time the bow spray came past our window, the glow lit it up. We watched it until we couldn’t keep our eyes open any more. Seeing Mother Nature put on that light show was something we’ll never forget.

That’s a tad choppy I must say. Not my idea of a fun sunny relaxing cruise. LOl

This is why there are so many Spanish galleons at the bottom of the Caribbean and Atlantic. We had a storm like that on our honeymoon cruise in 1988. The glasses were sliding off the tables.

Probably SEAN. We passed through the southern end on the Carnival Magic TA. Because of scheduling, we went 23 K not the 20K cruise advertised or a reduced speed for passenger comfort. Were in a Handicap room above the Bridge fwd and it was a rolling slamming ride. companion was tossed across the room twice but landed on bed not the floor. The ship has a bad rear thruster ( still not repaired I understand) and went Nort to Freeport rather then more southerly to Grand Turk as scheduled and put us into the Storm.
