Happy Hour Special: Norwegian’s Rebellious Fish

November 8, 2011 | By | 64 Comments

In true cruise spirit, every evening this week, we’ll be offering up special happy hour recipes for you to imbibe in at your leisure. Tonight, we bring you the recipe for Norwegian Cruise Line‘s famous Rebellious Fish, a concoction of passion fruit liqueur, orange vodka, orange liqueur, orange juice and sparkling wine — and yes, it really is served in a fishbowl. This fruity libation is one of the cruise line’s classics and you’ll likely see a slew of folks perched poolside with one on any given sailing. (Tip: If you don’t feel the urge to run out and purchase a couple of fishbowls, just use nice large glasses that will hold plenty of ice.) Be sure to check back tomorrow for a recipe from Celebrity Cruises.

Now tell us: What’s the most you’ve ever spent on cocktails (including beer and wine) while cruising? Tell us in the comments below — by November 8 at 6 p.m. EST — for your chance to win a Norwegian Cruise Line shot glass and a Cruise Critic T-shirt.

We don’t do to much drink on cruises except for one cruise where our bill for booze was 245.00 for both of us! Boy did we party on that cruise.

Well I am not a big drinker but while on the Carnival Valor Oct 2011 I spent about $50 during the 7 days & that included $17 for a Bahama Mama at their private island, so I could get the cool coconut to take home …LOL Love this site

I don’t spend much on booze while cruizing.
I cruise ONLY NCL (do love that fish drink!) and normally book w/ CasinoAtSea w/ free drink card.
Think the most my bar bill has ever been is $50.00 for whole cruise. Now..If I had to pay for every drink – that would be a totally different story! LOVE NCL & CAS!!

I’m going th NCL Pearl on 11-27-11 — Would LOVE to win the teeshirt & NCL shotglass!! Thank you! :-)

I am booked on the Magic on Dec 4, I really need the Magic shot glass, yes please……..:)

On the entire cruise or just one day? It had to be a Holiday cruise LAX to Hawaii / 14 Days with lots of sea days.

I am a top shelf drinker so the per drink ratio will be a lot lower than most.

In one day close to $800.USD (Christmas Day)

For the entire cruise $2000.00 (+/-) NYEve was pretty nice also. Dinner in the Italian restaurant was spectacular!:=D

My husband and I purchased the wine package on our last RCI cruise (at just over $200) and then purchased a drink at one of the poolside bars most afternoons. I think our alcohol bill worked out to just under $300 as a result…

Spent a little over $500 for three of us on the Oasis in March. Their passion fruit drink was yummy but I really just wanted the cool plastic bamboo tumbler it came it. I think it was $18 a piece and of course I needed two. One for each kid to take home. But my favorite cup is the coconut cup on Carnival, my hubby uses it as a candy bowl at work. Love this site. Thanks.

I spend about $100 a cruise, I think because there are a lot of free drink opportunities while cruising!

    25. Mary
      November 8th, 2011 @ 5:43 pm

We spent only about $50.00 last year on our Pearl Cruise between a bottle of wine, a few beers and a couple of the drinks of the day so I could have the glass!

    26. Donna Hurd
      November 8th, 2011 @ 5:44 pm

Probably $100 when we bought 2 bottles of wine for the table and drinks in the 12 night cruise which added up!

    27. Michelle Buenzli
      November 8th, 2011 @ 5:45 pm

Every time I turn around there’s another drink I want to try or a server who remembers what I had the day before who brings it to me without my asking, and of course I have to accept! Got to be close to $500.

Holland America, $485.00 Espresso Martini’s OMG the best I have ever had. Discovered at a mixology class on board. Can you get that recipe???? Of course my hubby was on the tab too. Funny I forget what he was drinking. I also remember buying a couple of rounds for my niece and her beau.

    33. Ronnie

We don’t drink so we always end the cruise with a minimal amount charged to our cabin.

    34. Vicki

I think the most I have spent on drinks during a cruise was probably $150.00.

We usually spend around $400 on a 7 day cruise. Hey it’s vacation after all. We love all the fun glasses too. When we use them it brings all of our cruise memories back. Nothing like a good drink by the pool in the middle of the ocean.

    37. Nancy
      November 8th, 2011 @ 5:58 pm

Probably around $200 or so — we bought a wine package and a few other drinks on a 10 night Panama Canal cruise. We don’t normally spend that much, though.

    38. Gail Murphy
      November 8th, 2011 @ 6:00 pm

We just went on a 5 day and for the 2 of us we spent $989.00 and that doesn’t include the 2 bottles of wine we did bring and drink + $200.00 worth of alcohol we tried to smuggle on and got it all taken away. Tried to save money and ended up spending more. Lesson learned :)

    40. Linda
      November 8th, 2011 @ 6:02 pm

I don’t drink too much, but my friend spent $1500.00. All I said was WOW!

We began cruising with our kids and my brothers family when the (5) kids were 7 and younger. Our last cruise they were all drinking and signing. With only occasional assistance from moms and dads, the “kids” did just over $700 in damage. All their baggage was overweight with the collection of take-home glassware.

It was actually less than we expected after reading so much about the high cost and how they add up. My husband and I together enjoyed our drinks each day at dinner and around the decks, and including the souviner glasses and it was still under $300.00 for the two of us. It still sounds like a lot, but we really did meet up with friends and have a lot of late night outs ;) FUN, FUN, FUN! Can’t wait until next cruise!

      1. Wine Package 2. Bloody Mary each morning 3. Drink of the Day each afternoon. 4. Extra drinks on Sea Days….Minimum of $250 for the two of us I guess. Our first cruise it was $400 I remember.

On my last cruise on the Statendam, we brought 8 cases of wine on board and paid the $18 per bottle corkage… there were 12 of us and that came to … $800-$1000. The crappy thing was then trying to collect from everyone at the end… never again!

First cruise with Norweigan last week! We really did party and knew what we were spending, a whopping $800. + but we expected it and it was vacation for us. Hope for a t-shirt and shot glass to show something for that adventure. NCL Star was wonderful!!!!!

Hi WE recently returned to Australia on the P&O Pearl from 11 day cruise to Vanuatu- $2400 bar bill – this included martini masters which included 4 drinks for $16- we went 3 times I also designed my own martini- I called it the Watermelon smash- start with a muddled scoop of watermelon in the glass. In the shaker add ice , a shot of vodka, shot of gin, shot of watermeon liqueur and 3 shots of cranberry juice- shake till frosty- pour over fruit and enjoy..Now you know why we had a big bar bill – I love cocktails.

Thanks so much for the Rebellious Fish recipe. That is my favorite and I have a set of 4 of the glasses from the Gem. That is probably also when we spent the most on bar drinks, about $80. Not a big drinker and my husband is diabetic, so he doesn’t drink more than an occasional glass of wine. Our travel agent usually sends 2 bottles of wine, so that cuts down on our bar bill as well.

We went on a 7 night NCL Jewel cruise to Fl and Bahamas and we spent about $1750 for the 2 adults on alcohol. That does include the duty free shop, but not what we purchased in the Bahamas. That would bring it to about $1800.
