It’s music to the ears: To celebrate the arrival of their ships in two North American homeports, Royal Caribbean and Carnival are planning big, splashy to-dos featuring big-name acts. RCI’s Voyager of the Seas and the new Carnival Magic have both been sailing European itineraries, but beginning this fall they’ll sail Western Caribbean cruises out of New Orleans and Galveston, respectively. Royal Caribbean has partnered with Republic Nashville to bring country-music fave Martina McBride to the stage of Voyager’s Lyric Theater on November 19 at the end of the ship’s first cruise from New Orleans. Carnival went right to the pop charts and snagged Maroon 5, which will perform from Galveston’s Pier 21 on November 13 as Magic arrives in its new homeport. While both concerts are free, they’re ticketed and by invitation only — though Carnival (and/or Maroon 5) fans will have the opportunity to snag tickets through Facebook and radio contests. Who’d you rather see?
