‘Puss’ Push on Allure: Salma, Antonio, 2 Giant Cats … and One Surprising Guest Appearance

October 16, 2011 | By | 3 Comments

There’s always something to do on Allure of the Seas, though contact sports aren’t usually on the menu. On Sunday, dozens of print and web journalists jostled for space with photographers and TV cameras on Deck 15 of the world’s largest cruise ship. That’s where Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek strolled down a windy, rain-soaked red carpet for the southeast premiere of “Puss in Boots,” screened afterward in 3-D in the ship’s massive Amber Theater. Other strutters included DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, Allure captain Hernan Zini and Royal Caribbean CEO Adam Goldstein, though a larger-than-life Puss (voiced by Banderas) and new character Kitty Southpaws (Hayek) seemed to inspire a tad more excitement — even if the passing showers did nothing for their shiny coats. There was also buzz about an unfortunate cameo: Sprawled behind the two celebs and signs touting the movie and Royal Caribbean sat … Carnival Freedom. Cut!
Grab some popcorn, and pore over the best cruise-related flicks.

Considering the weather and the back drop… Why not have moved the event to the Royal Promenade?! Or maybe even Central Park or the Boardwalk (although weather would have been the same and probably a little cramped!)
