Details: History buffs can pay their respects while gaining a deeper understanding of World War I on European Waterways' World War I Commemorative Cruise, 100 years since the start of the war. For seven nights, the 12-passenger Panache will sail along the Lys and Ypres rivers, visiting battlefields, cemeteries, monuments and museums. Specific stops include the site of the first day of the Battle of Somme; a battle during the Hundred Days Offensive; where Lt. John McCrae wrote the poem "In Flanders Field; Menin Gate Memorial, where passengers will attend a nighttime ceremony; and the Forest of Compiegne, where an agreement ultimately brought the war to an end. Onboard activities include a champagne welcome, comprehensive lunch and farewell breakfast. There is also an option to continue the cruise to Paris on May 25. Fares start at $5,090, including all excursions and transfers.
