Details: Civil War history buffs have an ideal package at hand: Soaking up the scenery along the Mississippi River, from Chattanooga to Memphis, while visiting landmarks alongside notable historians. For eight nights aboard American Queen Steamboat Company's American Queen, passengers will visit iconic locations such as Pope's Tavern Museum in Florence, Alabama, once a stagecoach stop and hospital for both Confederate and Union forces during the Civil War; Shiloh National Military Park; and New Madrid. Guest presenters include renowned Civil War historians Bobby Horton, Dr. James "Bud" Robertson and Brian Steel Wills, as well as owner of Quilters Alley in Paducah, Kentucky, Pat English, who will be offering quilting lessons. Details: The seven-night Mississippi River Civil War Cruise aboard American Cruise Lines' Queen of the Mississippi invites passengers to explore Civil War landmarks while exploring the personalities and strategies of both sides -- which includes Ulysses S. Grant, William T. Sherman, and PGT Beauregard. From Memphis to New Orleans, the ship will navigate the Mississippi, visiting iconic battlefields, monuments and museums along the way. Civil War scholar and author, Dr. Michael Deeb, also will be onboard hosting presentations. Stops include the Helena Museum, National Military Park and Rosedown State Plantation.
