The Theme: Sky & Telescope's Full Eclipse Cruise
The Dates: March 1 - 17, 2016
Details: Sky & Telescope's Editor in Chief Bob Naeye and Editor Greg Bryant will be onboard Holland America's Volendam to host the full eclipse cruise. Also joining the panel of experts will be David J. Tholen, Ph.D., an astronomer for the Institute for Astronomy as well as Michael Wysession, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University. Each of the experts will be hosting a series of seminars such as "Our Place in the Milky Way," "A Closer Look at Pluto" and "The Volcanoes of Indonesia." Meanwhile, passengers can explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other highlights throughout Indonesia. Ports of call include Jakarta, Indonesia; Makassar Straight for the solar eclipse; and Bali, Indonesia, from Singapore roundtrip. Passengers can choose between the full 16-night sailing or a shorter 9-night cruise. Fares start at $1,999 for an inside cabin.
The Theme: Total Solar Eclipse Cruise
The Dates:March 4 - 18, 2016
Details: Join Australian astronomer David Reneke for a 14-night Wewak-to-Darwin cruise onboard Coral Princess' Oceanic Discoverer. During the eclipse, passengers will be able to experience three minutes and 15 seconds of totality while the ship is anchored on the centerline. Passengers also can enjoy five days exploring the Raja Ampat region -- which includes more than 75 percent of the world's coral and fish species. There's also a longer cruise option beginning February 23. Fares for the 14-night sailing start at AU$13,560.
